Home cooks will all agree that you can’t go past fresh herbs to enhance your dishes. In addition to tasting great, fresh herbs can also bring life and greenery into your kitchen space. Delicious, practical and colourful, the humble herb is a popular plant with homeowners.
Here are 5 top (and affordable!) ideas for introducing live herbs into your kitchen design.
Planter Boxes
The humble planter box is an obvious choice for growing plants but it need not be boring! From timber and tin to concrete and terracotta – choose a planter that will suit your kitchen design and the method you want to mount it (concrete on a wall may not be practical as an example!). Wall mount your planter, pop on the windowsill or leave on your kitchen benchtop.
Hanging Rails
Hanging rails are a great solution for hanging herb pots in spaces that are otherwise under utilised. Hang between overhead cabinets, on empty walls or even down the side of kitchen benchtops.
Herb Tins
Create a cost effective, DIY herb garden with some chain wire and an old tin. Alternatively reuse old tea tins or up-cycle your tin cans with some copper spray paint.
Window Mounted Gardens
We love these hanging herb gardens from Little Urban Farmers. Easy to set up and won’t have a permanent impact upon any of your kitchen surfaces.
Terracotta Pots
Give your old terracotta pots a second life with a quick repaint and cute label. See how to do this via the Eat Love Share website.
